Diary Of A Simple Life

“ To realize the soothing power of simple life is to find the secret of happiness”

The sun is shining today, a glimpse of Spring to come after the snowfall earlier in the week. I spent 5 hours cleaning the house; slowly moving room to room, dusting, changing bedding, rearranging. Keeping a tidy home is like serotonin for my brain and I find myself looking around the home just enjoying the simple pleasure of seeing everything in it’s place.

I like to think that living simply gives me space to enjoy things like hobbies and quality time at home. And home has been the centre of my world these days. I’ve been in deep hibernation mode, happy to not be seen or share my time with anyone but my kitties and my husband. Just like nature journeys inward in Winter, I too feel the need to be still, to eat and breathe healthily and move slowly.

I’ve promised myself that this will be the year that I finally get the sourdough starter going and I thought about why I hadn’t only to realize it was fear of it not working. How silly I can get at times, striving for perfecting is something I’ve released and yet I find myself still doing it at times. I did make up my annual 5 gallon bucket of Clothing Detergent, it costs me about $2 to make and lasts the entire year.

“Aspire to live a quiet life, to mind your own affairs and to work with your hands”

Part of my Pagan belief is a connection with Nature and it’s cycles. Perhaps this connection is the very reason I’m not ready to head out into the world just yet, Spring will come and with it new life, right now I’m working on what I want that to look like and so I am content in my warm kitchen cooking simple foods; Foods enjoyed in the glow of candlelight and sometimes casually in front of the television.

The kitties remind me to enjoy the simple pleasures. They love nothing more than freshly laundered flannel sheets and they stretch out on the bed in the sun beams and enjoy a long nap.

The sun is slowly setting now and I love to watch the light and shadows hit the mountains. They’re dressed in snow tinged in shades of dark to light blue. I’ve planned a butternut squash soup with Tahini for dinner with roasted vegetables. Simple and from scratch tastes best.

Thank you for joining me today. If you enjoy my content and feel so inclined to buy me a hot chocolate, you can do so here.

Until next time,

Jennifer
