Everything about Autumn resonates with me ; morning fog, chilly evenings at home, a warm drink, blankets, pumpkins and cozy Autumn Fashion – Jenn a.k.a The Bell Witch Manor
I made the choice to shop locally as much as I can. I got tired of a big customs bills that come with ordering from international retailers and there are Canadian shops that carry things I enjoy just as much. Twice a year; at Autumn and Spring, I go through my closet and see if there is anything that needs replacing, anything I might be missing and anything that can be given away.
If I haven’t worn something since last season, it goes to the giveaway pile and I’m gathering a bag as we speak to sell at a local consignment shop. I realize the majority of clothing sold these days are fast fashion but I’m someone who takes great care of my clothes so they last me years. This is why I’m able to sell or gift my clothes when I’ve outgrown them – because they’re in very good condition. Thrifting is a way to be sustainable if this is important for you. In Vancouver, where I live however, thrifting can be as expensive as shopping at local shops, this is one of the most expensive cities in the world so I feel comfortable supporting Canadian and Vancouver based companies for new clothes.
For the coming season I needed a few light knits. Here in the Pacific Northwest we go through an in- between season; once from Winter into Spring and again between Summer and Autumn where the weather changes very quickly within hours. You may leave your home in the morning with a downpour and come home in summer-like weather. This makes it difficult to decide how to dress. Light knits and cotton tees are great for layering. This is what I picked up on my most recent shop. These items were all purchased at Simons.ca
A casual knit that will be perfect between seasons and for the office or under a puffer vest for running errands on day’s off. Today is overcast and 18 degrees (celsius) and I’m wearing it with leggings dressed down with sneakers. $39
Boatneck Sailor Stripe Sweater
They say if you find something you like to buy it in every colour right? This is the same knit from above just in a classic sailor stripe. This is one of the items I needed to replace in my wardrobe as the sailor stripe top I have is getting out dated. This one is a modern upgrade. $39
Colourful Organic Cotton Long Sleeve Tee
These cotton tees are a staple in my wardrobe. I always have a white and black one at all times. This brown one is a nice Autumn colour, still neutral and will go with many things in my closet including under pinafore dresses and as a first layer under sweaters in the colder months. I can even wear it during Autumn hikes. $22
I bought a sweater in this shade last year from H&M but it was so itchy I was never able to wear it so this one will replace that one. A thick cotton waffle knit, this sweater will look lovely styled with black cigarette pants for work or with jeans for a casual afternoon at the Pumpkin Patch. $34
It doesn’t take much to give your wardrobe a refresh and I find Simons always has quality pieces at good prices. I think my next purchase will be a pair of brown leather booties which I’ve needed for a while and will get good use Fall through Spring.
Do you update your wardrobe each season? What new pieces is your closet in need of?
