Spring 2021 Faves Roundup

It’s been a while it feels since I’ve done a favourites entry. There are so many things I’m loving this Spring so let’s dive right in shall we?

Trend Alert: Yellow Eyeshadow

I’ve been seeing this trend on the runway and makeup artists like Lisa Eldridge and Vloggers like Alanna Davison have been wearing yellow eyeshadow . Not only yellow but a wash of any pastel colour (lavender, turqouise , green) all over the lid. I feel yellow is the most wearable for day time so I’ve been rocking the Makeup Forever Artist Colour Eyeshadow in the shade Mimosa Matte. I glide this almost burnt yellow shadow all over the lid, highlight the inner corner with the yellow highlighter from the PIXI by Denise Palette then tight line my upper waterline with black waterproof gel pencil and go heavy with the mascara. Big bright 70’s reminiscent eyes. Loves it! www.sephora.com

What I’m Reading: Where’d You Go Bernadette

I found this book in the free bin at my work. I’m so tempted to watch the movie because I know it’s going to be so good based on what I’ve read so far (I’m about 3/4 of the way through). Cate Blanchette plays Bernadette – they couldn’t have cast her better. I love discovering a story that keeps me turning pages as fast as I can. Bernadette Fox is a quirky character. Artist, entrepreneur, mother, agoraphobic, missing? Based in Seattle, Bernadette lives in what was an all-girls school overlooking Elliot Bay with her husband Elgie and daughter Bee. After Bee claims a trip to Antartica for getting good grades, Bernadette disappears, leaving her family to weave emails and invoices which reveal a secret past. It sounds like it would be dark but it’s quite funny. Full review once I’m done.

Basket Purse

One thing I regret not bringing home with me from Mexico was one of the beautiful basket bags from the markets in Cabo and Puerto Vallarta. I was worried that they would get crushed in my suitcase. I did find this cute one on Amazon and had to buy it. For the beach or for a more casual Summer look paired with a flowy dress and sandals. The colourful pompoms remind me of the streamers strung across the streets in the beach town of Sayulita.

New Kicks – My Michael Kors Shoe Haul

I’m terrible at buying shoes. They always hurt my feet and end up collecting dust in the closet or I’ll buy a pair I love on impulse only to realize they’re: 1. not practical for everyday wear or 2. Only match a couple of outfits in my closet and end up collecting dust. Michael Kors is one of the only shops I know that I can order shoes online and they’ll always fit and be comfy so during their spring sale last month I ordered 2 pairs. Two weeks later, I ordered another 2. I’m happy with what I picked out and know they’ll last for years to come. All of these go well with many outfits in my closet. #NoRegrets. https://www.michaelkors.ca/

Necessaire Body Wash with Niacinamide and Eucalyptus

I took advantage during the Sephora VIB sale and purchased this Body Wash as I’d been curious to try it. Necessaire is a clean and sustainable brand new to me. This Eucalyptus infused body wash creates a light foam and the fresh scent of Eucalyptus is a pleasure to use during my morning shower. Aside from containing essential oils, they’ve added Niacinamide (Vit B3) which is soothing for the skin. Your shower suddenly becomes part of your skincare.

Coola SPF 30

I’m pretty serious about SPF application. It’s the last step in my skincare routine (before makeup). I cover my face, neck, entire chest and backs of hands 365 days a year. I’ve found however that using the same lotion I use on my face wasn’t working for my chest as it was leaving it a bit sticky ; I also hate staining my clothes so I recently switched to using this Coola setting spray with SPF 30 only for my chest. Because it was designed as a setting spray, it dries down quickly to a matt almost powdery feel. I also use it on the backs of my hands and keep my regular Laroche Posay Anthellios SPF for my face and neck. It’s working really well. http://sephora.ca/

Keeping It Tan

I like to keep a healthy tan going during Spring in Summer when I’m showing more skin in dresses, short sleeves and shorts. We all know how aging the sun is so fake tanning is perfect for looking like you’ve just come home from vacation without having to lay out in the sun (and damage your skin). I’ve tried quite a few products that left my skin streaky and orange. These are my ride or die tanning products; they look natural, keep skin moisturized and healthy looking, never streak and don’t transfer onto clothing and bedding. I’ve been loyal to these for years. https://shop.shoppersdrugmart.ca/
