My August Favourites – Free Yoga, BC Books & The Return Of Baby Phat.

It’s a very hot August day.  We just did a power walk and I’m getting ready to make dinner: my version of cabbage rolls with yam mash (recipe blog to come). These are the things I’ve been loving recently.

Bye Bye Sun Damage

Biologique Recherche PIGM 400 Lotion has been around since the 70’s but somehow the French skincare line has been able to fly under the radar.  A cult favourite of professional facialists, celebrities and influencers alike, this chemical exfoliant isn’t for the faint at heart.  With an ingredient list including apple cider vinegar, onions and horse radish it stinks to say the least but once your skin acclimatizes to the burning this lotion works like magic.  Unlike grainy exfoliants that can damage and scratch the skin, PIGM 400 melts the “glue” that keeps dead skin cells stuck the the surface of your face, neck and decolletage making skin look dull, patchy and wrinkled. A few drops on a cotton pad pat on cleansed skin in the morning reveals the fresh, young looking skin below.  This product makes me glow. I will never be without it.  This is where I buy mine in Canada.

 World Apron Collection

During a visit to Spain back in 2008 I picked up a flamenco style apron and have done the same in each city/country I’ve visited since.  During our honeymoon in June I added 3 more to my collection from Spain, France and Italy.  I now have enough aprons for each day of the week and my various moods

BC Books

BC Ferries has a great collection of British Columbian authors.  Any time I take a ferry to any of the islands that surround Vancouver (and while most people make a bee line for the White Spot counter (for junk food)), I go straight to the Passages Gift Shop and almost every time, find a book to buy.  These are some I’ve purchased in the past years.  Seems like True Crime, Politics and Nature are high on my reading list topics.

Baby Phat Is Back

Flash back! I loved Baby Phat back in early 2000’s.  I had the purses and all the “ghetto fabulous” gear.  Launched by Kimora Lee Simmons Baby Phat is back with a partnership with the retail giant Forever 21. A date hasn’t been set yet for the re-launch but the teaser trailer is on the site featuring Kimora’s daughters Ming Lee and Aoki Lee who have modelled for the brand since they were babies.  I’m thinking the line is a little too “young” for me at this point but it’s still exciting to see the street fashion brand come back strong.  http://babyphat.com/

Lavender Eyes

NXY Sugar Rush Creme Eye Shadow is my current obsession.  Featured on the red carpet and runways for Spring and Summer, this lavender eye will suit any eye colour; green, brown, hazel or blue.  Lisa Elridge, Youtube Makeup Artist and Beauty Director of Lancome International added a photo of this look she’d created for actress Emma Roberts about a month ago on Instagram.  I immediately commented and begged for a tutorial.  She posted the tutorial this past Sunday and mentioned that “someone” had asked for her to do this look.  That was me!

My Improved Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Recipe

Exactly a year ago today I posted a blog called Banana Loaf Recipe and Finding Happiness. Since then I’ve reworked my recipe and made it better.  Here’s my recipe for Jenn’s Improved Chocolate Chip Banana Bread.  The first one didn’t have chocolate in it and that’s exactly what it was missing!.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Melt 8 Tblsp (or 1/2 a cup) of softened butter .

Add the melted butter into a large mixing bowl and slowly add 1 Cup of Sugar.

Stir in 2 beaten eggs and 3 mashed ripe bananas.

Slowly mix in 1/2 teaspoon of salt + 1 teaspoon of baking soda + 1 teaspoon of cinnamon + 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Add 1 1/4 cup of All Purpose Flour + 1/2 a cup of semi sweet (or dark) chocolate chips.

Pour mixture into a greased pan and bake for 60 minutes.

Cool for 15 minutes before serving.  You’re welcome!
