May the Forest Be With You ( Jenn’s favourite products that smell like trees)

In honour of the new wintery theme I just added to the blog, I thought I’d share some products I love that bring the outdoors into your home.  As an Certified Aromatherapist, I own and work with a large range of essential oils, the evergreens being my favourite ones;  Cedar, Balsam Fir, Pine, Cypress, Spruce and Juniper.  I use them for both cosmetic and perfumery purposes.  Because many of you may not know how to safely blend essential oils, these amazing lines have done it for you.

Thymes Frasier Fir Candle – When I go for a walk in nature and walk past a Fir or Cedar tree, I ask it permission to take a very small bit of needles/leaves and I rub them between my hands and inhale the sweet, woodsy, lemony scent.  This candle, smells exactly like that.  www.thymes.com

Juniper Ridge Cabin Sprays – I discovered Juniper Ridge when they first started a few years ago.  Basically they’re a group of amazing wild crafters/herbalists who live in the sierra in northern California, like to hike and camp and harvest plants native to their area; sage, juniper, cedar… then come back to camp and distill and bottle it, creating gorgeous wilderness perfumes.  I keep a bottle or two of their cabin sprays with me for when I can’t be outdoors.  A few spritzes and your living room becomes an alpine meadow or a walk deep in the misty rainforest of our west coast.  www.juniperridge.com

Pains Balsam Fir – As the name states, this is quite literally a bag of chipped Fir needles and branches and when you open the bag, aaaaaahhhh.  I put this in a potpourri bowl to gently diffuse this green scent but it can also be used to stuff pillows or mixed with flaxseeds to fill draft stoppers. If you like the scent of being in a northern forest, you will love this product.   http://www.painesproducts.com

Lush BathBomb in Guardian of the Forest –  This one’s new to Lush and I was really happy to come across it since I find that a lot of their bath bombs contain the same classic scents whereas this one is different. A  mix of Cypress, Oakmoss (a rarely used scent in cosmetics) and rosewood. Like the description on their site says it will “transform your bath into a mystical forest”.  www.lush.ca

Jenn’s Handmade Soaps in Woodsman –  Among my various talents (ahem!. do I hear my own horn tooting?)  I really enjoy, (aside from making my Pure Attar Oils and Flower of Tahiti Organics products), making soap.  Something about making my own soap makes me feel homey and in touch with a simpler time and I mean, ask my sister; my favourite childhood game was playing “pioneer”!.  I chop fresh cedar into this soap and add a blend of lavender, cedar, lemon and citronella oils.  100% natural. 100% delicious.

Our busy modern lifestyles may not always allow time to enjoy extended periods of time visiting Mother Nature. These products bring Her to you. Just close your eyes while using any of the products mentioned and you’re already half way there.

Love,

Jennifer
